The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have formally executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch an executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Hajj Operations Management.

?The agreement was signed on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the NAHCON Headquarters in Abuja. NAHCON Chairman and CEO, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, along with Commission Secretary Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Ali, signed on behalf of NAHCON. Vice-Chancellor Professor Adamu Ahmed and Registrar Malam Rabiu Samaila executed the agreement on behalf of ABU.

?Describing the collaboration as a historic milestone, Ambassador Yusuf emphasized that modern pilgrimage management requires specialized competencies, practical skills, and a deep understanding of an evolving global industry. He noted that combining rigorous academic coursework with field experience will significantly boost service delivery and planning for pilgrims.

?Professor Ahmed revealed that the program represents nearly a decade of joint planning between both institutions. Designed to bridge academic rigor and hands-on operational training, the joint initiative will be administered through the ABU Distance Learning Centre and the Hajj Institute of Nigeria (HIN).

?The high-level signing ceremony was attended by key institutional leaders, including the Rector of the Hajj Institute of Nigeria, Professor Nasiru Maiturare, and the Director of the ABU Distance Learning Centre, Professor Mohammed Bashir Mu’azu.

?The specialized MBA program will be open to NAHCON officials, State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, licensed Hajj and Umrah tour operators, hospitality and travel industry professionals, religious scholars, and prospective pilgrimage administrators worldwide.

Admission requirements, application procedures, and commencement schedules will be published by Ahmadu Bello University in due course.
