?Nigeria is advocating stronger and sustained international support for victims and survivors of terrorism, extending far beyond immediate humanitarian assistance.

?According to a statement by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Gwabin Musa made the call at the United Nations Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism in New York.

?General Musa highlighted the severe impact of terrorism across the continent, noting that Sub-Saharan Africa accounted for approximately 60 percent of global terrorism deaths in 2025.

He stressed the urgent need for comprehensive medical, psychosocial, economic, and reintegration support for survivors to aid long-term recovery.

?The Minister also disclosed that Nigeria secured 865 terrorism-related convictions in 2026, underscoring the government's commitment to accountability and the rule of law.

?He further called for enhanced international cooperation through peer learning, inclusive partnerships, and targeted UN support, reaffirming Nigeria’s readiness to share its operational and policy experience at the upcoming International Conference on Victims of Terrorism in Baghdad later this year.
